Our Story

How it all started...

In 1946, a group of dedicated individuals living in Ruidoso committed to starting a new Methodist Church through prayer. They assisted in finding the first pastor, Rev. Barcus. Upon his arrival, they dedicated themselves to building a new log cabin sanctuary. This original group not only participated in constructing the sanctuary but also received support from the entire community. As a result of this collaboration, they named the church "Community Methodist Church."

Expanding the vision...

Over the years, as our ministries have grown, so has our campus. In the 1990s, we added an education building that now houses  Imagination Station, our preschool. In the early 2000s, with the support of our community, we built the warehouse. This warehouse, the original home of the Boys and Girls Club of Ruidoso, has been a beacon of hope, hosting a variety of services for Ruidoso. Today, it is the heart of our dinner church, Community Table, a testament to our commitment to serving the community.

In 2018, when Pastor Dustin McEwen joined us, he was tasked with a monumental mission-to help CMC rebuild the sanctuary.  With the unwavering support and hard work of many dedicated members of our congregation, and the grace of God, the new sanctuary was completed in 2020. This achievement is a testament to the strength and unity of our congregation, and our shared commitment to providing a place where the community can come together to worship God.

Where we are headed...

As we strive to 'spread scriptural holiness across the earth', we are proud of our long-standing tradition of service to our neighbors. We continue to live into the original vision of 1946, reaching the whole community through passionate worship, extravagant love, and a bold witness. Our members, a testament to our tradition, can be seen working and volunteering in the community, making it look a little more like heaven. Over the last several years, we've continued to help the community, particularly those impacted by the fires and floods, by aiding them in a variety of ways. We invite you to be part of this tradition and worship the Risen Christ with us!
